Wellness Wednesday: Solheim Cup

This Wellness Wednesday we are going to deviate from the traditional work-out series and shed some spotlight on the highly anticipated Solheim Cup. If you have never watched the Solheim Cup before, watch it. Just think of this as wellness for the spirit of your golf game. Even Paula Creamer said it, it doesn’t get much better than the Solheim Cup Matches!

This year marks the 12th Solheim Cup and will officially begin on September 23-25 at Killeen Castle in County Meath, Ireland. It is a three-day contest for professional female golfers, pitting 12 top players from the United States against 12 top players from Europe.

A Few Insights…

This year’s Solheim Cup Victory is highly debated. It has been no secret that this is Europe’s deepest team to date. While the U.S. team has some strong contenders (Juli Inkster), there are some questionable players that have caused quite a stir amongst commentators and bookies alike. Three of the American players have never played in a Solheim Cup and six have never played on foreign soil. Golf Digest has predicted that several players on the U.S. team will carry the load all five matches, with the most obvious choices being: Inkster, Creamer, Kerr and Lewis. While the American team adjusts to their team dynamic, Europe is playing the underdog card.

“If you compare our team to the Americans’ team, I think we’ve had a stronger year,” said Suzann Pettersen to Golf Digest. “But at the same time, you want to leave the Americans as a favorite. I like being the underdog.”

The competition is hot, who will take the cup? Stay tuned for results! But for now, let’s catch up with the teams…
