Healthy golf? Is that possible? Health expert, Carol LeBeau, tells Health Source Magazine that there are many health benefits to a round of golf. While you will still have to stay away from the snack bar, many of the health benefits that come with a round of golf include:
Health Benefits of Golf
- A great work-out: Despite popular belief, a round of golf does provide a cardiovascular workout. You can increase this work-out by opting to walk instead of drive and choose to carry your own clubs. By choosing to make these two small changes you are burning more calories and speeding up your metabolism.
- Bone Health: Carol LeBeau tells Health Source Magazine that golf is great for the bones. Weight-bearing exercise can create long and lean muscle mass, which produces a strong skeleton. Strong bones helps prevent bone degeneration and other bone diseases. You can create stronger bones by opting to carry your own clubs.
- Vitamins: Golfing provides a way for you to get plenty of Vitamin D, which is an essential vitamin to bone growth. Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosporous in the blood, while aiding in the growth of healthy skin cells. So, the some sun is not too bad for the skin.
- Friends: It is no secret that golf is also a social game. Golfing provides a great opportunity to chat with old friends and break the ice with new ones. Going for a weekly round of golf at your country club could also provide a gateway for making new relationships.
So grab your clubs, grab your friends, head out to the links and get healthy!
