And the winner is…
Danielle Kang repeats as the U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion
Danielle Kang, 18, of Westlake Village, CA. won her second consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
As newspaper headlines read, “Going out with a Kang” the 18 year-old did just that. Kang defeated Moriya Jutanugarn, 17, of Thailand, in the 36-hole final Sunday at the 6,399-yard, par-71 Rhode Island Country Club.
Kang joins 10 other players who have won at least two Women’s Amateur championships in a row. While there are five players that have won three titles in a row, Kang will not be one of them. Instead, the 18 year-old champ plans on turning professional and will be unable to defend the title in 2012. Kang credited her win to a successful and articulated game of golf. Congrats, Danielle Kang!
Final Results: Danielle Kang, Westlake Village, Calif. (144) def. Moriya Jutanugarn, Thailand (137), 6 and 5
